One of the best known design principles is 'KISS' which stands for 'Keep It Simple, Stupid'. This is by far the most important idea when it comes to building websites. If it isn't easy to navigate your site, your visitors will go looking at your competitors. If your site requires visitors to download plug-ins for their browsers in order to view various pages - or even the whole site! - there's a strong likelihood of visitors becoming frustrated and leaving.
No matter how 'cool' a feature might look, does it provide the visitor with what they actually want? If it is meant to provide some sort of information, does it do its job, or does it fall into the 'redundant bells and whistles' category?
Finally, amazingly enough, there are plenty of designers, including some very high profile ones, that seem to have forgotten that not everyone in the world uses a broadband Internet connection. Many of these extremely attractive features take a long time to download over a 56K modem. These designers may use these features with our blessing - if only they would provide an alternative for their less fortunate visitors!
At Sajata Web Services, we pride ourselves on having easy to read, easy to navigate menu systems, easy to read text, and a clear, clean, defined design. We can provide all this without compromising on design quality, ensuring a stylish, sophisticated site every time.
